On 11/17/18, 20-month-old Emma was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). Emma’s treatment is expected to last 2.5 years with the hardest part being the first 30 days which she will spend in the hospital. While in the hospital she will receive several rounds of chemo each week to include spinal chemo, as well as blood transfusions. After she is released from the hospital, she will continue onto phase two of her treatment plan with several weekly hospital and doctor visits for Chemo, testing and follow ups. As you can imagine even with insurance the medical bills are going to climb high very quickly. To complicate matters, Abby and Josh have been remodeling their home to prepare for their newest addition to the family. They are expecting a new baby girl in February. The remodel/repairs will need to be completed before they are released from the hospital to prevent Emma from exposure to any disruptive dust or irritants. Abby and Josh have been taking the remodel slow and completing steps as their budget has allowed, but there is no way for them to be prepared and able to complete it within 30 days without some major help.
Abby and Josh are the kind of people we all aspire to be. They are kind, hardworking, helpful, and great parents to 5yr old Caleb and little Emma. It is difficult to understand sometime why such hardship comes to those who least deserve it, but even in these times Abby and Josh have put their best foot forward and doing an amazing job at trying to come up with the best plan for their family. By putting their children first, Abby will be unable to work her usual evening hours to stay with Emma during her in-patient treatment leaving her pay check much smaller than usual. Similarly, Josh will be taking over many of the duties Abby did for Caleb in the morning and after school to make things as normal as possible for him, restricting his work schedule too. This family first attitude, combined with medical bills, the arrival of their third child, and a home remodel are enough to stretch anyone’s bank account to the breaking point. THIS IS WHERE YOU CAN HELP! As we approach this holiday season, think about the gift of a donation. That gift will be go much further than the gifts, glitter, and trimmings we find ourselves buying that often go unthought of and unused the day after Christmas. The gift of this donation is an opportunity to help little Emma and her family, a gift they will cherish for a lifetime.
